I’ve been at Merrill Axle & Wheel Service for over 20 years, but I’ve been around the shop most of my life — learning the trade from a young age. As a third-generation member of my family to work and help run the business, I take pride in continuing what’s been built here. I enjoy working with customers, whether it’s fixing a problem or helping build something unique. I also value the people I work alongside — having a solid crew that takes pride in their work makes a big difference in the quality of what we do every day. No matter the job, the goal is the same: do it right and make sure the vehicle performs the way it should. This shop has been built over time, and my goal is to keep that standard going — so it’s there for the next generation to step into and earn, just like I did.

I'm Ruth, and I've been part of Merrill Axle and Wheel Service since August 1983 — 43 years and counting. I trained in cosmetology but ended up helping my mom in the office and started here with no car knowledge. I’m a master multitasker who learned on the job by listening to my dad and brothers talk to customers, asking questions, and soaking up everything about noises, tires, pulling, brakes, gear ratios — you name it. I know a little about a lot (and a lot about a little), and I love working and connecting with our wonderful customers — even when I have to deliver the bad news. I also love sharing the rich history of Merrill Axle and Wheel Service; if the walls could talk, you’d be amazed at how far we’ve come. Come visit us in beautiful downtown Des Moines, Iowa.
